Our Stories

Researchers estimate that approximately 290 men in Canada will be diagnosed with male breast cancer this year and 60 will die.

In the past ten years, it is reasonable to believe that over 2,000 men in this country have survived this very rare disease. Yet one question remains unanswered. Where are these men?

Survivors of male breast cancer never talk about it and prefer instead to remain anonymous. They suffer both shame and stigma for having a disease that is almost exclusively attributed to women and where everything is painted pink, the most feminine colour in the colour wheel.

Furthermore, the serious lack of any acknowledgement of male breast cancer in the breast cancer world leaves its survivors without support, without a voice, and without a venue for their stories to be told. They are therefore silent… until now!

Of the thousands of men who have survived male breast cancer in Canada, here are the stories of just a few who have mustered the courage to bravely share their difficult journeys with us today.
